Blood Donations for patients affected by Hurricane Ian
Following Hurricane Ian’s devastating landfall in Florida and now in Georgia and the Carolinas, the American Red Cross urges eligible individuals in unaffected areas to give blood and help ensure patients in impacted areas continue to have access to lifesaving blood. The storm’s second landfall is currently threatening to cancel more than 130 Red Cross blood drives this weekend in Georgia and the Carolinas possibly causing more than 2,700 blood and platelet donations to go uncollected.

Red Cross Still Helping in Puerto Rico and Alaska
People in Alaska and Puerto Rico are still struggling with the heartbreaking damage left behind by Hurricane Fiona and Typhoon Merbok and the American Red Cross is on the ground in both regions, helping people impacted by these devastating storms. PUERTO RICO Nearly half a million people in Puerto Rico are still living without power and thousands more have no running water more than a week after Hurricane Fiona hit the island. Red Cross disaster workers, many with no power or water themselves, are working around the clock with our partners to provide comfort and support. Preliminary damage reports indicate that almost 400 homes were destroyed or suffered major damage.

Our hearts go out to everyone affected by Hurricane Ian's catastrophic damage. We know this is a challenging time, and the American Red Cross is working around the clock with our partners to offer support and comfort to people in need. Wednesday night, more than 33,000 people sought refuge in approximately 260 evacuation shelters across Florida to escape Hurricane Ian. The number of people seeking shelter could increase in the coming days as power outages continue and people leave homes that are too damaged to stay in.
